Serious
Video Game SpaceStationSim Simulaneously Released and Adapted to Create SimCEV
for NASA
Vision Videogames has simultaneously
released and adapted its SpaceStationSim video game to become an early version
of SimCEV, a systems engineering and integration visualization tool for NASA.
Bill Mueller and Greg Beauchesne described the process of development on October
31st at the Serious Games conference in DC.
(PRWEB) November
3, 2005 -- Vision Videogames’ president Bill Mueller and Technical Director
Greg Beauchesne spoke on October 31st at the second annual Serious Games Summit
in Washington DC. The topic of their lecture was the progression of their SpaceStationSim
software from PC game to an initial version of SimCEV, a collaborative systems
engineering and integration visualization tool for NASA. Their topic covered the
many issues a small company faces collaborating with a huge government agency
like NASA. These lessons learned are valuable to other companies attempting a
similar business plan. There is currently broad interest in the space industry
to apply game technology like 3D visualization and active components to industrial
strength systems engineering and life cycle management on space vehicles. The
Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) is the new space vehicle that NASA will fly to
the moon and to Mars.
Simultaneously, Vision Videogames has released
SpaceStationSim through the space oriented distributor Learning Technologies,
to the science center, school and museum store market. SpaceStationSim conveys
the challenges of managing astronauts aboard the International Space Station while
simultaneously building and maintaining the ship.
SpaceStationSim is
a database-driven, astronaut/space vehicle simulator game capable of being adapted
to visualize data from a variety of sources. Currently the software visualizes
Vision's SpaceStationSim game-oriented simulation and in the future, will
be capable of visualizing NASA's own simulation data.
While it is unusual
for a product to transition from a game to a serious tool, more and more game
techniques are being used in industry to model sophisticated environments and
equipment ranging from hurricane impact to military hardware and tactics. The
second annual Serious Games Summit is where leading academics, training experts,
military personnel, government leaders, foundations, and non-governmental organizations
gather to discuss future collaboration and determine how game methods and technologies
can further outreach, education and training goals. For more info, see http://www.spacestationsim.com/

TOWSON
BASED VISION VIDEOGAMES INTERVIEW ON G-4 TECH TV AIRS FRIDAY, JULY 23, 2004
at 10:00 p.m.
A game profile and an interview with company
president Bill Mueller of the Towson based Vision Videogames can be seen on "Pulse",
a G4 Tech TV program initially airing Friday, July 23, 2004. The segment, hosted
by Pulse producer Peter Lee, focuses on Vision Videogames upcoming project
SpaceStationSim, a simulation game based on board the International Space Station
and developed with the cooperation of NASA through a Space Act Agreement.
In
SpaceStationSim, the player assumes the roll of the Chief Administrator of NASA,
creating astronaut crewmembers with unique needs, abilities and personalities
while managing their activities and personal relationships. Astronauts will conduct
micro gravity experiments while dealing with hilarious but troublesome space tourists
shipped aboard by the Russians. SpaceStationSim is a true 3-D construction SIM
that encourages a player to use their imagination and build thousands of different
configurations of the International Space Station (ISS).
The
Space Act Agreement allows Vision Videogames a flow of information from, and access
to, NASA personnel so the company can gather information to build their game.
"The assistance and support from NASA is invaluable and the enthusiasm of
NASA personnel has been great," according to Bill Mueller, president of Vision
Videogames. "We believe that one real day at NASA is more exciting than an
imaginary day anywhere else, we intend to bring to a whole generation of young
people, a sense of ownership in, and dedication to NASA".
The show
(episode #329) will repeat throughout the next week. For further details and air

President also Recording Engineer
President of Video
Game Company Engineers Live HFStival Festival Broadcast with 68,000 in Attendance
On
a clear, hot day at RFK stadium in Washington, D.C., celebrated, Grammy nominated,
recording engineer Bill Mueller returned to his first love live broadcast
engineering. Although president and owner of Vision Videogames of Towson Maryland,
Mueller still manages to return to his roots by working directly in the live recording
industry several times a year. He is no stranger to the HFStival having engineered
it five times in the last six years. So far, this years additions to Muellers
extensive rock resume include The Offspring, Yellowcard, Violent Femmes, New Found
Glory, P.O.D., Voodoo Blue, and O.A.R. His other audio engineering credits include
two Tibetan Freedom Concerts, Earth Day celebrations, Live from the House of Blues
and over one hundred and fifty major artists including Aerosmith, Green Day, Pearl
Jam, Eminem, Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine,
Sheryl Crow, and Puff Daddy.
"Live broadcast mixing is
the most pressure packed of all audio engineering tasks." says Mueller, "There
is all the spontaneity of front of house mixing, but my live broadcast mixes live
forever either in celebration or infamy. Tracking a CD is simple in comparison."
With
a 30-year history in the music industry, Mueller believes in exposing new musical
talent through the video game format. "The video game is the single strongest
vehicle for breaking new music today. If you want your music heard, you have to
get it in front of the audience. Today, there are millions of music loving people
playing games."
Vision Videogames will also use Vision
Audio, Inc, its in-house recording studio to record voice, effects and music for
other video game companies. Mueller is very sensitive to the specific needs and
demands of a video game studio. "Our team has thirty five games and fifteen
years of recording experience with this genre. It takes a lot of the guesswork
out of the studio. We have built Vision Audio from the ground up specifically
for recording audio for videogames", explains Mueller.

Frank Vivirito,
artist for GRS Games in Towson, Maryland has just returned from a weeklong seminar
for teaching students China at the renowned Nanjing Arts Institute, a digital
arts division of Summit College.
The purpose of the trip was to expand student knowledge of Maya, a 3-D
art tool used in developing video games and movies. College president Zhong Xingming
personally invited Frank, being an acclaimed game artist, to spend a week training
40 selected students in Maya. The invitation was made in the spirit of "communication
and cooperation" according to president Zhong Xingming.
"It has
been a lifelong dream of mine to go to China. I am thankful for the opportunity
to have gone and to have taught such wonderful students" says Frank.
Although
GRS Games is under a deadline crunch with their upcoming PS2 game, SpaceStationSim,

"GRS Games is lucky to have such a talented artist as Frank. We appreciate
that he is eager to share his expertise with young artists."
The trip
comes at an interesting time for both GRS Games and Summit College.. GRS Games
